Thomas Jefferson said that given the choice between
government without newspapers and newspapers without government, he would choose
to have newspapers.
In medicine we have government without newspapers. Patients
cannot find out what they need to know to make informed choices. No one in
medicine records or reports the information patients need to know the most. So
patients will have to.

Stencils and Spray Chalk and
A Symbol for Patient Safety
I created stencils to make this sign and mailed the stencils
to the
Walk for Patient Safety
(www.LeapforPatientSafety.org)

When I learned that they were using an inkjet to print their
signs on 11 by 17 paper, I emailed to them the artwork for the sign below
instead.

I told them that if anyone questions the layout to say that
the lines around patient safety are being crossed all the time.
I also mailed twenty stencils for
marking the blue chalk-outline on pavement.
Maybe I should make a stencil that says
"Dead patients are not acceptable costs."
